Illumination is celebrating its 10th anniversary on the
21st August as part of Festival Cairns, with a special under 18 community concert at PCYC in Manunda. This event will be on the same night as Illumination 18+ event at AJ Hackett’s Smithfield.
This highly anticipated night out with Music, Dance, Performance and the creative involvement of the punters, dressing up in White Outfits, is Illumination.
The unifying of the crowd creates a conscious 3D moving canvas illuminated under the intelligent lighting and projections. Geometric shapes are suspended to interact with the multi colour laser shows. Both events will reflect the classic Illumination formula in their theme. Set your co-ordinates for Space Travel and prepare yourselves for a voyage in the Vehicle of Light as the organisers have programmed the line-ups allowing the headline acts,
ENDORPHIN (Syd) / MODIFI (Syd) / DAISUKE (Japan)
to play at both events. Support for the night comes from an extensive line-up of local DJ’s/ Producers, Fire Performers, Multi media Visual artists, Drummers and Indigenous performance. The alignment of these two extraordinary events will be documented by the Illumination Film Crew.

ILLUMINATION, a dance /performance event, held over the last 10 years with a white outfit theme. Over the last few years Illumination has been held at A.J Hacketts. Organisers Dean O’Shannessey and Veronica (Judy) De Bruyne focus all of their accumulated creative energy into this one event.

the United Nations General Assembly defined the culture of peace as
the " (…) values, attitudes and behaviours that reflect and inspire social
interaction and sharing based on the principles of freedom, justice and
democracy, all human rights, tolerance and solidarity, that reject violence and
endeavour to prevent conflicts by tackling their root causes to solve problems
through dialogue and negotiation and that guarantee the full exercise of all
rights and the means to participate fully in the development process of their
society” (A/RES/52/13).
The culture of peace is a concept
that inspires the work
of individuals, groups, organizations and institutions around the world whose
actions correspond to those of the United Nations Declaration and Programme
of Action for a Culture of Peace(A/RES/53/243)
Cairns Peace Week celebrations will culminate on the friday night event at Mooroolbool. LRRecords will run the rap comp on this event and has been practicing down at Shang St Park on Saturday afternoons from 3pm-6pm up until the week of the event. Come on down meet DJ BlitZ and D-nox , do some practice, learn some tricks and get the low-down on the event.
Some more punk action coming our way - support live music in Cairns, come along to make this gig a success, so bands keep on being confident in coming to Cairns.
As part of the Gordonvale Pyramid Race Festival, the Tanks Arts Centre and local Gordonvale young people have been working together to organise their very own awesome event.
For the past 10 weeks the Gordonvale Crew have been learning to plan, promote, produce and deliver an all ages drug and alcohol free night of music and festivities. Organised by young people for young people Turn It Up is an important initiative made possible with the support of Arts Workers from Tanks Art Centre, Youth Substance Misuse Service and Centacare Cairns.
The night’s entertainment will feature seven of Cairns best emerging young bands ranging in style from Hip Hop and Reggae to Rock and Metal. There is also the chance to be in the draw to win the lucky door prize, a 4 GB iPod Nano. To add to the entertainment you can see the bands on the big screen and free snacks and drinks will be available for all to enjoy.

Get down to Ravizza Park Edmonton on Saturday 5 July for the Battle of Edmonton – a huge night of music and dance mayhem! A massive line-up of the best local bands and dance crews in the Cairns region will come together at this free gig, as they battle it out for the mantle of supremacy and awesome prizes on offer. Headlining bands including City Bomb and Shub, with headlining dancers Three Six Five Crew and Stylin’ Techniques. Plus there’ll be freaky visuals, information stalls, food and drinks available. ? The Battle of Edmonton is an all-ages evening of cranking music and stomping dance moves. A drug and alcohol free event, it kicks off at 6pm and runs ‘til 10pm.
