Dub In Tha Pub 19

May 12th, 2008 by 'little rascal'

Dub In Tha Pub 19
This months show is bound to be a ripper with a bunch of fresh talent gracing the decks and dub machines accompanied by soulful reggae band Dabas.

Starting the night is local producer Bent Intent. Bent Intent is Pete Blay from Cairns. Pete’s involvement in the electronic scene began in 1997, djing and promoting events along the eastcoast of AUS..In the last year his focus has turned to production, beginning his new chill/downtempo project - ‘Bent Intent’. Incorporating open soundscapes and laidback grooves, combining involving soundscapes with sneaky rhythms, accoustic elements and evolving synthesis - Bent Intent follows the ‘less is more approach’, revelling in the spaces in between…

Followed by Bent Intent will be Deadly Creature, whom played back to back with Mokoto at the last Dub In Tha Pub, this will be Deadly Creature’s debut set at the popular gig. Her worldy dub best reflects her soul:
music, soul, performance, fire, aerials, mixing, production, earth, vision, experience, truth & love.

All reggae and ready to roll will be emerging local live reggae band, Dabas.
Dabas is the creation of Torres Strait Islander musician and songwriter Waipila Tikak Sabadi Kerry (Soccer), with skankin’ keys and backing vocals coming from younger brothers Godfrey and Suwaku and the rhythm section covered by Chris Pardey on drums and the ‘little rascal’ on bass. Dabas is straight up Aussie roots reggae. Soccer writes soulful reggae music and has a mighty presence, his vocals are rich and warm and his musicianship comes naturally. Dabas songs reflect moments in life, love, family and culture.

Last but not least, and to take out the night with deep basswise dubstep will be local girl Aimee making her Dub In Tha Pub debut and adding another fine feme dub ingredient to a great selection of players for what is bound to be a entertaining night for local and visiting Dub and Music fans alike!!!

Kuranda Roots Festival

May 10th, 2008 by 'little rascal'

The Far North’s premier roots festival returns this year with another diverse National line up and International guests.

Kuranda Roots, held at the stunning Kuranda Amphitheatre, features a strong line up of local, interstate and NZ acts and yet stays true to its reputation as an affordable community and family event.

The festival is the brainchild of ex-Kuranda local Morgyn Quinn, owner of Brisbane music label Rudekat Records and Cairns arts/music producers The House Of Falcon. In turn, a large local crew from the FNQ arts and music community support the event.

In the words of the Morgyn, “Kuranda Roots is about bringing together the diverse forms of Roots Music including Soul, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, World and Blues and creating a world class bill of cutting edge entertainment. We are also committed to developing the skills and abilities of local artists.”

Kuranda has a long and colourful history of roots music, and the amphitheatre is one of the most critical and beautiful outdoor live music venues in the country. Last years festival left punters hungry for more, and the 2008 program promises to deliver some great musical surprises.

The program features many local indigenous artists and acts as a showcase event for the great diversity of talent across the Far North.

Feature acts include Olmecha Supreme (NZ), The Nomad (NZ), Fyah Walk (Byron), Dubmarine (Bris), Zennith (Kuranda), Mistalaneous (Bris), Mystic beats (Byron), Rudekat Soundsystem (Bris and many more.

Kuranda Roots is an all ages licensed event. Tickets go on sale May 4th from Ticketlink, www.ticketlink.com.au 07-4031-9555 and funky Cairns shops Tastey, Shiva Moon and Shi Sha.

Check www.kurandaroots.com for more information.
