NEW RELEASE from our friends at SUB CONTINENTAL DUB. Awesome stuff, check it:
WESTERNSYNTHETICS - THE MACHINE
Australian up-and-coming producer Westernsynthetics, AKA Rhyece O’Neill, is backing up what’s already been a sparkling 2010 with the release of‘The Machine’, the lead single from his politically charged debut album ‘May Day Radio’. Presented by pioneering South Pacific label Sub Continental Dub, it follows from the success of his earlier ‘Engine No. 999’ 12-inch single.
Fusing his unique blend of acid, dub, techno and electronic psychedelia, Westernsynthetics draws from vast pallet of soundscapes, live instrumentation and subversive imagery. Featuring vocals from Charles Smith, it straddles the realms of deep minimalist dubstep, techno and psychedelia with a revolutionary outlook. Sampling Mario Savio’s infamous speech of the same name, spoken during the free speech movement at Berkley University in 1965, it’s a universal call to action. Summoning the sadness that lingers in the dark corners of the urban jungle, it’s set to a stunning soundtrack of beats that are both slickly produced as well as emotionally gripping.
Westernsynthetic’s ‘The Machine’ is released on July 9th, with his ‘May Day Radio’ album set to land in September 2010. Mastered by one of Australia’s finest engineers Tony ‘Jack The Bear’ Mantz, it will be distributed internationally by renowned UK imprint Cargo Records.

In the expanse of the Australian outdoor festival culture, Winter Solstice Lifestyle Gathering holds a special place in the hearts and minds of punters from not only Cairns, but from around the country and indeed the globe as well. The annual event, in its fourth year in 2009, was one of the region’s biggest and most creative festivals, attracting well over a hundred acts, performers, healers and artists over four days and three nights in the rugged beauty of the Atherton Tablelands. The thing about Winter Solstice is that it’s much more than a Far North Queensland event, instead being one of Australia’s premier alternative life style festivals with a strong focus on entertainment for all the ages and a holistic festival experience. Thousands of punters have been known to travel from interstate and overseas just to attend, proving it’s not only one of the region’s top music and arts events, but a global tourism drawcard as well. With a broad range of musical styles – from electronic music to live bands and solo acts – as well as roving performers, fire shows, healing areas, sustainability exhibitions and market stalls, Winter Solstice definitely deserves its spot as the winner of the Best Festival in the timeOUT Awards 2009.Written by Jesse Kuch - Editor - TimeOut - Cairns Post….The 5th annual Cairns Winter Solstice Celebration & Sustainable Lifestyle Gathering is a 4 day / 3 night outback camping adventure, that will be held from June 18-21, 2010 at Sugarbag Festival Grounds, 3.5 hrs drive from Cairns near Mount Garnet in Far North Queensland. This year we have well over 150 local, National & International Producers, Dj’s , Artists & Roving performers over our 5 stages. Clan Analogue’s slice of Australian electronic music history Re Cognition: The Clan Analogue Legacy Collection is starting to find its way onto airwaves and data streams throughout the land since its release two weeks ago. Listeners are re-connecting anew with the sounds of Australia’s modern electronic music era or discovering classics from B(if)tek, Infusion, Deepchild, Telemetry Orchestra and more for the first time.
But it is the collection of 14 new remixes on Disc B of the collection which showcases the work of the Clan Analogue collective’s current artists. An open invitation was made to artists to remix their favourite moments from the Clan Analogue back catalogue and some gems have been given a new polish.
As remixes albums go, Re Cognition is certainly superior to The Cure’s Mixed Up. It probably won’t outsell Lady Gaga The Remix. But is Re Cognition one of the great Remix albums in Australian electronic music history, up there with Severed Heads’ Retread or Katalyst’s Agent Manipulated? And who are these mysterious remixers? Here are a few of them…
Atone’s ‘Hellhole’ has been remixed by Suspect, half of ambient acid groovers Dark Network.
Melbourne dance producer Koshowko has given a new beat to B(if)tek and Disco Stu.
Sydney electro outfit Swinging Tasty Bag revisited a track from the influential ambient release Aphelion One.
Andy Rantzen tackled an obscurity from the very first Clan Analogue EP.
Null Object stitched together a new composition using loops sampled from the multitude of artists on Clan Analogue’s 101 Lock Grooves vinyl release.
Valley Forge envelopes Pear Shaped in a lush chilled groove.
Kaputnik, half of Random Acts of Elevator Music, has distilled the 5000 Fingers of Dr T into its pure ambient essence.
And not to mention the various reconstructions, reimaginings and reactivations of Clan Analogue classics by Bleepin’ J Squawkins, Lunar Module, Mutante Frequante, Apell, Zaziz and Winduptoys…
The Re Cognition set also includes a companion DVD. As well as classic filmclips by Deepchild, Telemetry Orchestra, Pear Shaped and others, the disc includes the new documentary Clan Analogue: Plug In & Switch On and the influential 1995 VHS release Clan Analogue Live at the Goethe Institut.
A digital-download-only album Cognition X: The Clan Analogue Rarities Collection is available for free to anyone buying Re Cognition triple-disc set. Go to www.clananalogue.org for details.
