We’re at it again folks! Dubstep and dnb action at the good ol’ GreenAnt Cantina ona Friday night..! We got usual suspect K-one mixing up the dnb goods, and the dubstep by Dub Rascals with Ben Hakalitz of Yothu Yindi joining Symonard on percussion and electronic drums. It will be a mesh of rhythms and bass with a live hybrid jam of dj, electronica and massive drums and percussion, mixed with the wholesome fatness of the dubstep sound..

Folks

Turntable Radio - the world’s only radio show dedicated to scratching and turntablism.

Turntable Radio is a radio show dedicated entirely to turntablism. Created by Mr Trick, it began life in 2002 on London’s Resonance 104.4FM, airing from 10-11.30p.m. every Sunday night.

In addition to the FM airwaves presence shows were archived online, with a supporting portal site carrying news, updates, links and more from the worldwide scratch/tablism scene, and via this means the show has built up a colossal worldwide following - currently some 40,000 listeners.

‘Jah In The Moment’ Tour

July 22nd, 2008 by 'little rascal'

Nicky Bomba gets back to basics with his first ever solo tour:
‘Jah In The Moment’ Tour
Supported Nationally By Vorn Doolette
EP Release: 5 July 2008, Transmitter Records/MGM

Nicky Bomba

Nicky Bomba has stepped up to the challenge and faced a more intimate approach to his craft – his first ever solo project. ‘Jah in the Moment’ is the first offering (and brand new single) from Nicky’s solo project and in support of this release, he will be hitting the road and touring throughout July to selected regions around Australia.

Known for his work as the charismatic front man and songwriter for reggae/funk band ‘Bomba’ and through album collaborations such as ‘Drums and Lions’ with Dereb Desalegn (Ethiopia), “Bomba vs Laroz” with Laroz Haim (Tel Aviv), and as drummer on John Butler’s milestone album Sunrise Over Sea, Nicky’s solo endeavour is a natural progression for him. Re-focusing commitment to his craft has inspired Nicky to return to his roots, explore the basics of music making in it’s purest form and breathe fresh life into a whole batch of musical concoctions.

“It strangely took me a while to get started on this album. The songs were there waiting, some that had been with me for years and others freshly baked but I kept finding subconscious excuses to avoid the studio. Eventually I allowed myself to be vulnerable and feel the fear of it all. It was the blessing the adventure needed. From that point the possibilities were endless.”

For this record, Nicky has enlisted the expertise of producer Tony Buchen, to capture the power of his live performance and translate the experience onto record. The single, ‘Jah in the Moment’ (JITM) is a direct result of time Nicky spent weaving himself into the tapestry of music and culture in Jamaica ,Ethiopia and various parts of the globe, the different instruments he has collected along the way, and most importantly; JITM is a musical translation of Nicky’s philosophies on life. Just like his music, Nicky’s philosophies have been developed, nurtured and created through years of extensive travel and the search for truth and happiness. JITM directly reflects Nicky’s energy and positive attitude towards life, which is central to everything that he does, including his music.

This tour will see Nicky sitting in the drummer’s seat as well as guitar duties accompanied by long time friends on double bass and percussion. The trio will be mixing it up on stage, exploring a range of unique instruments and encouraging the audience to take their own journey through new sounds from the ‘Jah in the Moment’ EP as well and his forthcoming album ‘Food and Shelter’ (set for release late 2008).

Don’t miss this tour and the start of a very special musical journey…

WakeUp Australia

July 7th, 2008 by 'little rascal'

Are you one of the majority of Australians who urgently want our country to cut our greenhouse pollution? Most Australians don’t have time to read Professor Garnaut’s shocking 600-page climate report, so we’ve created a quick clip that summarises it fast, what it means for Australia - and what it means for you.

Garnaut is already under fire from a “scare campaign” being waged by the polluting industries’ lobby groups and the Opposition. That is why it’s so important that you can pick a good climate solution from a bad one. Cut the spin with a click:

www.getup.org.au/campaign/ClimateActionNow

The GetUp community has spoken out strongly on this issue in the past, because we know that solving climate change is a top priority for Australia. We marched for it, at the ‘Walk Against Warming’ rallies. We voted for it, in last year’s election. We signed petitions for it - over 100,000 calling for strong emission reduction targets. And we take action in our daily lives for it too - consuming less, saving energy, using less water, and recycling.

If we go silent now, the Opposition and the industries campaigning for a weak emissions trading scheme that protects their profits rather than the climate, will win the debate ahead of the government’s upcoming Green Paper on climate. After you’ve seen the clip, make your voice heard too - and armed with our Information Sheet write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.

www.getup.org.au/campaign/ClimateActionNow

The Garnaut Review found that Australia will be hit hard by climate change. If we do nothing, our grandkids will be living in a very different Australia, one where agriculture in the Murray Darling Basin has all but ended, the Great Barrier Reef has been destroyed, snow-based tourism in Australia is no longer viable, and 5.5 million Australians will be exposed to Dengue fever.

That’s why it’s important that you understand the climate solutions being proposed to solve the crisis ahead as the PM looks to the Australian public in formulating his response to Garnaut on July 16.

For the climate,
The GetUp team

Help protect the Kimberley wilderness from industrialisation

July 5th, 2008 by 'little rascal'

The Kimberley wilderness coast is internationally recognised as one of the last great unspoiled marine and terrestrial environments in the world.

The Kimberley’s clean seas, countless islands, coral reefs, mangroves, rainforests and rivers are home to an astonishing variety of wildlife including endangered humpback whales, 5 species of marine turtles, dugong, crocodiles, rare snubfin dolphins, and the northern quoll. The Kimberley coast also has outstanding cultural values for the region’s many Indigenous communities.

From June to November each year, endangered humpback whales make their way to calving grounds just north of Broome, where they stay for four months with their calves. This special whale nursery area needs to be protected from the damaging impacts of industry.

The urgent reality is that right now several companies, including Inpex (a Japanese energy company) and Woodside Ltd, have submitted proposals to develop the Browse Basin gas field to the State and Commonwealth governments. The impacts of industrialisation, including proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, would destroy one of the last large and remote coastal wilderness areas left in the world.

This government needs to commit to:

* science-based regional conservation planning and management using whole-of-landscape principles
* strong involvement of the Traditional Owners and Indigenous communities in land and sea management programs
* ruling out incompatible large scale industrial activity

Some proposed forms of industrial activity, such as gas processing (LNG) plants on the wilderness coast, huge bauxite mines on the Mitchell Plateau, and large scale irrigated agriculture in the Fitzroy valley, should be ruled out straight away as incompatible, destructive, and inherently unsustainable.

Thanks for taking action!

Peter Robertson
WA State Coordinator
