Resonate @ Rise

August 4th, 2010 by 'little rascal'

resonate@rise

After establishing itself in a very short time as Perth’s premier Dubstep/Drum and Bass night Resonate is back. Resonates popularity has propelled it to become a regular Rise night. HUGE Dubstep debut by YLEM, TIFA and SAXON. This is definitely not a night to miss at Rise.

Resonate is a night devoted to broken beats and bass. Bringing together the tightly coiled productions of Dubstep with the fast breakbeats of DnB in perfect combination on a system with the brutal force that enables you to feel the sub-frequencies reverberating through the very essence of your being.

Local legends and up and comers alike feature on a diverse roster aimed at presenting the good, bad and dirty but only the best the genres offer. Perth has long been recognised as a musical and creative epi-centre, Resonate offers a vehicle to showcase the wide array of talent, both globally recognised and as yet undiscovered our city has to offer.

Resonate projects powerful penetrating soundwaves through the Dubstep and Drum n Bass communities to draw together lovers of bass. This is loud, it is filthy, it is low.

WESTERNSYNTHETICS - THE MACHINE

July 19th, 2010 by 'little rascal'

NEW RELEASE from our friends at SUB CONTINENTAL DUB. Awesome stuff, check it:

 The Machine

WESTERNSYNTHETICS - THE MACHINE

Australian up-and-coming producer Westernsynthetics, AKA Rhyece O’Neill, is backing up what’s already been a sparkling 2010 with the release of‘The Machine’, the lead single from his politically charged debut album ‘May Day Radio’. Presented by pioneering South Pacific label Sub Continental Dub, it follows from the success of his earlier ‘Engine No. 999’ 12-inch single.

Fusing his unique blend of acid, dub, techno and electronic psychedelia, Westernsynthetics draws from vast pallet of soundscapes, live instrumentation and subversive imagery. Featuring vocals from Charles Smith, it straddles the realms of deep minimalist dubstep, techno and psychedelia with a revolutionary outlook. Sampling Mario Savio’s infamous speech of the same name, spoken during the free speech movement at Berkley University in 1965, it’s a universal call to action. Summoning the sadness that lingers in the dark corners of the urban jungle, it’s set to a stunning soundtrack of beats that are both slickly produced as well as emotionally gripping.

Westernsynthetic’s ‘The Machine’ is released on July 9th, with his ‘May Day Radio’ album set to land in September 2010. Mastered by one of Australia’s finest engineers Tony ‘Jack The Bear’ Mantz, it will be distributed internationally by renowned UK imprint Cargo Records.

The 5th Cairns Winter Solstice Celebration & Sustainable Lifestyle Gathering…

June 6th, 2010 by CraigOS

In the expanse of the Australian outdoor festival culture, Winter Solstice Lifestyle Gathering holds a special place in the hearts and minds of punters from not only Cairns, but from around the country and indeed the globe as well. The annual event, in its fourth year in 2009, was one of the region’s biggest and most creative festivals, attracting well over a hundred acts, performers, healers and artists over four days and three nights in the rugged beauty of the Atherton Tablelands. The thing about Winter Solstice is that it’s much more than a Far North Queensland event, instead being one of Australia’s premier alternative life style festivals with a strong focus on entertainment for all the ages and a holistic festival experience. Thousands of punters have been known to travel from interstate and overseas just to attend, proving it’s not only one of the region’s top music and arts events, but a global tourism drawcard as well. With a broad range of musical styles – from electronic music to live bands and solo acts – as well as roving performers, fire shows, healing areas, sustainability exhibitions and market stalls, Winter Solstice definitely deserves its spot as the winner of the Best Festival in the timeOUT Awards 2009.Written by Jesse Kuch - Editor - TimeOut - Cairns Post….The 5th annual Cairns Winter Solstice Celebration & Sustainable Lifestyle Gathering is a 4 day / 3 night outback camping adventure, that will be held from June 18-21, 2010 at Sugarbag Festival Grounds, 3.5 hrs drive from Cairns near Mount Garnet in Far North Queensland. This year we have well over 150 local, National & International Producers, Dj’s , Artists &  Roving performers over our 5 stages. The Winter Solstice Festival musical line-up has something for everyone & is not just about the music, we offer a huge array of different forms of entertainment from around the globe, staged in the great Aussie Outback….This year the lineup includes the likes of Frechbax, Erphun, LouD, Tijuana Cartel, Chocolate Strings, Zennith, OPIUO, The Mollusk, Uone, Spoonhead, suncontrolspecies, Bent Intent, Solatek, Backwards Man & ShiftEQ - however there are so many more you had better check it out to believe it!Also enlightening us all with their truly visionary art is Adam Scott Miller (USA) and Kuba Fiedorowicz (Melb.) and friends, as they paint within the EcoTribe Wellness Village - home to the permaculture gardens and food-scrap generator, kids space, movement space and outdoor cinema area.So kids… Jump straight onto the website to check out the complete lineup, all about the workshops and the tradition that is the Winter Solstice, plus directions to get there and much more…http://www.wintersolstice.com.auBooyah!!CraigOS

Bomb The System

June 2nd, 2010 by 'little rascal'
Just watched this very cool movie. Very well done and highly recommended…check it out:

Bomb the System (2005)
directed by Adam Bhala Lough
featuring Mark Webber, Gano Grills, Jade Yorker, Jaclyn DeSantis, Joey Dedio

A young man with a troubled past expresses himself through street art in this independent drama. Anthony (Mark Webber) is a 19-year-old kid living in New York City who was introduced to “bombing” — graffiti art sprayed on public walls when the cops aren’t looking — by his older brother. When his brother died, Anthony took up bombing himself, and with the help of his pals Justin (Gano Grills) and Kevin (Jade Yorker) he does murals under the street name “Blest,” while struggling to avoid the NYPD’s anti-graffiti Vandal Squad. Anthony’s mother (Donna Mitchell) is after him to quit bombing and attend art school, while his girlfriend (Jaclyn DeSantis) wants to get out of New York, and would like him to join her. However, it takes a run-in with Bobby Cox (Al Sapienza), a Vandal Squad cop with a hair-trigger temper, to push Anthony into making a decision about his life. Bomb the System was the first feature film from writer and director Adam Bhala Lough, who was only 23 years old when the picture was made. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
