Radiothon 2016 – RTRFM 92.1

Our favorite local community radio station is having its annual ‘Radiothon’.

The ‘littlerascal’ absolutely loves this station and listens everyday for the great diversity of music (new and old), independent news, community topics, local music, arts & culture and more – presented across a bunch of awesome shows!

Radiothon is RTRFM’s annual 10-day fundraising drive. RTRFM relies on the financial contributions of its listeners to survive, and revenue raised during Radiothon makes up 30% of our annual operating income. The continued support of listeners during Radiothon ensures that RTRFM can continue to deliver unique programs and events, and remain a high-quality alternative to mainstream media in Perth. It is your station as much as it is ours.

During Radiothon you can join us:

  • At the Radiothon Party, which takes place across five venues in Northbridge on Saturday, 13 August;
  • In the RTRFM office by volunteering your time in our phone room; and
  • On air at 92.1FM and online at rtrfm.com.au, 24 hours a day.

Dig Deep and show RTRFM your support during Radiothon 2016 by subscribing or donating. You’ll be investing in a broadcast voice for independent artists and thinkers and contributing to your community in the most positive way.

Keep the Community in Your Radio

The Federal Budget contains cuts of $1.4 million p.a., funding that currently keeps community radio stations broadcasting on digital in 5 capital cities. Community radio’s standing alongside public and commercial broadcasters is at risk.

The good news is that community radio has great community support and during this election campaign we’ll be speaking up loud and clear and calling for both the Coalition and Labor to restore the funding if they win government.

Sign the petition below and we’ll make sure that both Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten get your message.

Petition

Malcolm Turnbull and Bill Shorten, as a supporter of community radio I’m asking you to reinstate funding to keep community radio on digital if you win government.

Community radio serves so many Australians; from radio reading for people with a print disability to programming in the different languages spoken across our country, to Indigenous broadcasters, faith based stations, regional stations and youth stations.

Please don’t leave community radio behind.

Magnolia’s will be followed by live sets from alt-folk singer-songwriter Heathcote Blue, with The Leap Year, Red Jezebel and The Kill Devil Hills bringing the noise until well past midnight. RTRFM’s Homegrown DJs will close out the night, spinning nothin’ but the freshest domestic produce ‘til late.

Punters seeking carefree dance party vibes should make a beeline for Connections Nightclub, where they’ll enjoy the feel-good dance floor selections of Andrew Sinclair versus Rok Riley, Splash Bros., bedazzled beatmaker Catlips and The Monarchy DJs.

Or pop into the Lounge on William Street to chill and/or boogie to the sounds of Woodstock Rock DJs, Golden Apples DJs and {MOVE} DJs on the decks ‘til 2am.

Hi Permies,

There is a great free event coming up called ‘Groat Street Festival’ on the 25th October, I guess its a bit like Hulbert St was for Freo.
Faerie Cara (Eco Faeries) has worked hard for a few years with our community to create an annual northern suburbs Community Run Festival and this year we have got it right. Great venue, 4 stages of entertainment, kids entertainment and well rounded appeal.
You can see the workshops and timetables alone are a great opportunity but there is also 40 plus stalls, sustainability, up-cycling, craft, community gardens and transition towns, food, and kids fun.
It will be a great ‘old fashion’ community event the way town fairs used to be.

We would love you to come along, share the poster wide and spread the news, or if you are able volunteer some time to help it run smoothly.
There are many roles of varying levels of knowledge required, something for everyone.

Groat Street Festival
Groat St, North Beach.
Saturday the 25th October
from 9:30-3pm
Free Event

Groat Street Festival is a showcase of local community members delivering their skills and passion for sustainability, community, well being and the arts. The event is for all ages and there are plenty of things for children to do, so parents can participate in one of the many workshops happening around the area.

You’ll find children’s shows and workshops, wildlife displays, animal farm, roving star wars characters, faeries, pirates, belldancers, face painting, garden workshops, delicious food, health and lifestyle presentations, market stalls, guided bush walks through Star Swamp Reserve and Aboriginal culture bush walks.

Ride your bike to the event and receive a reward. VIP bike parking available.
Garage Sale Trail swap shop will be at Groat Street Festival. Bring unwanted clothes, books, children’s toys and plants to the community swap shop. One-for-one exchange, free to participate, bring as many items as you wish. Anything left over will be donated to charity.

commit to community radio

The future of free-to-air broadcasting is digital – but for community radio stations, that future is now at risk.

Unless the Federal Government commits to giving digital community radio a future in the upcoming budget, vital digital community radio stations will be switched off.

Community radio is the voice of communities right across the country – it’s too important to be lost.
