[rascal recommends] COMBAT WOMBAT – Just Across the Border

Posted on 30th July 2017 by Brett Caporn (LRRecords) in dub/wise,events,hip hop,local,music,rascal recommended,release promo - Tags: , , , , ,

Been a BIG fan of these musical activists since the Unsound System days. Have seen them play: much energy, much passion and truth. >>> ‘rascal recommended’

Playing in Perth at Rosemount Hotel 04.08.2017

Melbourne hip hop activists, truth speakers and riot rockers, COMBAT WOMBAT return to Perth for the first time in ten years on the back of their recently released Just Across The Border LP via https://combatwombat.bandcamp.com/album/just-across-the-border

Support from MathasDiger Rokwell and Soma

Five years in the making, Just Across The Border is a hip hop album with a revolutionary attitude.

Paying equal homage to the golden era of hip hop and sound system dub reggae, it was recorded and produced in Monkey Marc’s solar-powered studio in Melbourne, Australia.

From bass-heavy speaker-blasting hip hop to cinematic musical epilogues and raw sonic beauty, Just Across The Border is Combat Wombat’s first album in over a decade.

This is truth-exposing, riot-inspiring music to tear down borders and break down the walls of racism and injustice we live under

Presented by The Community Records and YARDSTOCK

Radiothon 2016 – RTRFM 92.1

Our favorite local community radio station is having its annual ‘Radiothon’.

The ‘littlerascal’ absolutely loves this station and listens everyday for the great diversity of music (new and old), independent news, community topics, local music, arts & culture and more – presented across a bunch of awesome shows!

Radiothon is RTRFM’s annual 10-day fundraising drive. RTRFM relies on the financial contributions of its listeners to survive, and revenue raised during Radiothon makes up 30% of our annual operating income. The continued support of listeners during Radiothon ensures that RTRFM can continue to deliver unique programs and events, and remain a high-quality alternative to mainstream media in Perth. It is your station as much as it is ours.

During Radiothon you can join us:

  • At the Radiothon Party, which takes place across five venues in Northbridge on Saturday, 13 August;
  • In the RTRFM office by volunteering your time in our phone room; and
  • On air at 92.1FM and online at rtrfm.com.au, 24 hours a day.

Dig Deep and show RTRFM your support during Radiothon 2016 by subscribing or donating. You’ll be investing in a broadcast voice for independent artists and thinkers and contributing to your community in the most positive way.

JUST RELEASED!! —– Dysphemic – Inter-G-Lactic

We can’t stop listening to this awesome new release from Dysphemic!!

With a beautiful story behind it, this mesmerising EP is available for free download…. Check it out below! :)

Dysphemic – Inter-G-Lactic

Released 19 Jan 2016

Returning with his second release on Gravitas Music, Dysphemic perfectly melds glitch hop with 1980s sci-fi soundtrack vibes on “Inter-G-Lactic”. Julian, who is better known as Dysphemic, has co-created this cosmically minded EP alongside his brother Yiani as a tribute to their father, Vernon Treweeke, who passed alway last year. Well known for his visually psychedelic paintings, Vernon was a well respected figure within the Australian and international psychedelic community; his legacy lives on through his sons and their musical memorial to his achievements.

The freshman tune “Age Of Vern” kicks things off with conscious hip hop cut fueled by classy Spanish guitar and funky yet smooth bass lines. Things get a bit heavier with the title track; well-tuned synthesis plays beautifully alongside filtered, twangy guitar riffs. Called “a tour de force of Balkan and Middle Eastern string sounds” by The Untz, “Anatoli” dips deep into an exotic aesthetic while continuing the larger aesthetic of the album. “Decompression” brings up the rear with its intricately resampled reese basses and broken, pulsing drum beat.
